CALL FOR SHORT FILMS AND VIDEOS
The Out North Film Festival is excited to announce a call for short films and videos by the Yukon queer community. The festival will be taking place at the Beringia Interpretive Centre April 12-14. The theme for the 2024 festival is "The Sun: A Celebration of Trans and Queer Joy" - which is all about sharing and celebrating radiant stories of resilience and self-discovery.
Example submissions can include short fiction and documentary films, drag videos and art videos. We are also open to other proposals.
Deadline for applications: March 10, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered eligible, a short must:
Short films will be selected by the Festival’s Programming Advisory Committee based on how well they fulfilled the following elements:

Short films chosen for the 2024 Out North Film Festival will be screened once, either as part of a Short Film Program or as an opener to a feature film.
Fees for short films will be as follows:

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered eligible, a short must:
- Have a maximum running time of 20 minutes and be complete at the time of submission;
- Speak to the spirit of queerness or share a queer story;
- Be made and/or starred in by a queer, two-spirit, or trans Yukon filmmaker or artist;
- Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English at the time of submission; and
- Not have previously been screened as part of the Out North Film Festival.
Short films will be selected by the Festival’s Programming Advisory Committee based on how well they fulfilled the following elements:
- Speaks to the spirit of queerness or shares a queer story
- Connects with the festival theme
- Artistic merit (originality, script, acting, cinematography, etc.)
Fees and screening
Short films chosen for the 2024 Out North Film Festival will be screened once, either as part of a Short Film Program or as an opener to a feature film.
Fees for short films will be as follows:
- Less than 5 minutes: $75
- 5-15 minutes: $115
- 15-20 minutes: $150
- 2 tickets to the screening of your short film.

The Out North Film Festival is excited to announce a call for artists from the Yukon queer community. This can include storytellers, comedians, performing artists, and digital/multimedia installations.
The festival will be taking place at the Beringia Interpretive Centre April 12-14. The theme for the 2024 festival is "The Sun: A Celebration of Trans and Queer Joy" - which is all about sharing and celebrating radiant stories of resilience and self-discovery. Through the call for artists, we are excited to showcase the diversity of queer and trans art in the Yukon and to celebrate the breadth of amazing home-grown talent.

Considerations for performances and installations:
- The performance area is narrow and long - approximately 5 feet deep x 10-15 feet wide including the area to walk onto the stage. There is also a podium stage right. See photo below.
- Tech is very limited.There are a couple handheld mics, a lapel mic and the lighting is a general coloured wash.
- We are happy to chat with you about performance ahead of time to determine how it will fit the venue.
- Installations need to be simple to set up as it needs to be taken down at the end of each night due to venue requirements.

- Identifies as queer, two-spirit, or trans; and
- For performances: have a running time of 10-20 minutes

- Fit for the venue/performance space
Fees and performance
- Performances must be 10-20 minutes
- Performers will receive a fee of $300 and 2 tickets to the event with your performance
- We have some, but limited, funding to provide for travel costs for performers coming to Whitehorse for the festival.
